Review of Pinterest Buffalo Chicken Garbage Bread

Superbowl Sunday Buffalo Chicken Garbage Bread

I discovered the idea for Buffalo Chicken "Garbage" Bread on Pinterest. Why someone would refer to a cool foodie idea as "garbage"? I have no idea. Perhaps they just wanted to be provocative and it worked. A lot of people have mentioned to me they wondered if this recipe is worth making so I put it through my test kitchen last night for dinner.

This is my version of the original recipe and thank you Kathleen for the idea for making it for the Superbowl! An absolutely perfect snack for a big crowd.

The Recipe

Superbowl Sunday Buffalo Chicken Garbage Bread

To make the Buffalo chicken rollup more yummy and a tad healthy and less garbage-y I decided to make my breadmaker version of Janet & Greta's Quick-Rise Healthy Pizza Dough. Luckily we did not lose power during a wicked wind storm until after the breadmaker was done kneading. Phew!

After the power came back on I cooked two chicken breasts. Note: next time I will season them less because the dinner was a tad on the salty side.

I cut the chicken into cutes and got out PC Buffalo Wing Sauce.

I added enough to coat the chicken.

I patted the dough into a rectangular-ish shape on a well-floured board and rolled it out into a large rectangle.

I added around 1/3 cup ranch dressing (you can use Blue cheese but Reg is not a fan) and 1/4 cup wing sauce. I used a spatula to spread it over the dough.

Then I added the chicken and grated some old cheddar on top.

I rolled the dough length-wise but realized, holy crap, that is too long! No wonder people complained that some of the bread was raw.

I cut mine in half and did my best to pinch the dough together. I put the bread in a preheated 425F oven and baked for 20 minutes.

Yes, it ran all over the place!

I scooped up some of the leaking sauce and drizzled it on top.

I was really curious to see Reg's reaction. Of course he did not like the name and wondered what I had put into this "garbage" bread. I assured him it was fine and I had created a healthier version.

Well we both loved it! In fact Reg went back for seconds... Nice! I think he would have eaten the entire other loaf but wanted to make sure I had some which was sweet.

As I said, a tad salty but wow, very tasty! A great munch-able that we enjoyed with a big salad and berry smoothie last night for dinner.

Kathleen is right, this is going to be perfect for the Superbowl in many houses. You can use pre-made pizza dough to make life easier and faster. I would recommend making two loaves though to avoid the whole raw-dough issue but for a sports/entertainment night? This idea kind of rocks!

I give this recipe four out of five wooden spoons.

This actually looks really good that I will definitely have to try it out. Further, I just wanted to add that when I was living in Montreal (I am back home in Israel now) that was my FAVORITE brand of buffalo wing sauce. No one did it better than PC and I actually kind of miss it..haha.

That's cool. It's like a Buffalo chicken panzerotto! Interesting.

I'm curious about what was unhealthy in the original version.

Shira, it is a really good sauce! Very flavourful without being too hot, I love it.

Yes Jamie, it is lie that! I think the original differs in that they use store-bought dough. Probably thought of it as "garbage" because there is nothing really good for you in it but hey, sometimes we need a treat!

Definitely a tasty looking dinner! I think when I make this (and I will) I may throw some red peppers and mushrooms in as well! Delicious!
